What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is one of the oldest forms of medicine. It originated in China over 5,000 years ago. It is based on the fact that all living beings have a vital energy or “qi” that runs through an invisible meridian system. Acupuncture is a clinical medicine based on thousands of years of experience. One thing is for sure: It definitely works.  We are talking about thousands of years of practice and application. This is a kind of treatment that has been proven effective by time and collective experience.

Acupuncture involves the application of sterile disposable needles at specific points on the body.  One can restore and maintain health through the stimulation of certain points. The body has meridians or energy lines which correspond to different organs. Oriental medicine is a beautiful and eloquent system based on nature and the elements. Each of the elements corresponds to a different organ system. We truly are one with nature. When our internal elemental system goes out of balance, it can cause the person to become unhealthy and experience symptoms. The imbalance occurs before the symptoms appear.

Acupuncture is known for its role in pain relief, chemotherapy support and detoxification. What it is really great for is preventative care. If that’s the case, then one does not really need to check the diseases that do not exist in the first place. This is all thanks to Acupuncture.

How is acupuncture administered?

An acupuncturist will ask many varied questions about the person, looking at the person as a whole being. Then they will “read” the pulse and tongue of the patient. The tongue reflects the organs. There are three pulses at each wrist and each is reflective of a paired organ system. This is a very efficient and effective way to diagnose the patient. The next step is the treatment itself which is customized according to one’s health needs and body condition.

Some of the known effects of acupuncture are;

  • It stimulates the release of pain killing endorphins
  • It influences the release of neurotransmitters which affect brain chemistry thereby supporting a healthy emotional state.
  • It affects the autonomic nervous system which affects the functioning of the organ systems.
  • It stimulates circulation.
  • It also affects the electrical system of the body.
